Faye Wong was scheduled to perform on the 17th in Chongqing as part of her 2012 Concert Tour. However, a section of seats suddenly collapsed, which halted the performance. The concert has been pushed back to the 19th.At 8pm when the show was scheduled to start, Faye was still backstage preparing for her entrance. The seats in sections E1 and F1 suddenly started to collapse, which resulted in chaos. According to those on scene, the floor towards the right side of the stage by the exit began to collapse, which affected the floors to about a quarter of the seats in the area. After the accident, the staff on hand began directing people to vacate the premises.
Currently there's no indication of whether anyone was hurt in the incident. The concert has been postponed until the 19th. Later Faye personally apologized through her Weibo: "I hope everyone is alright. We will continue the day after tomorrow. I'm sorry it frightened so many people and I apologize for the inconvenience. Sorry, sorry."
Katie Chan, Faye's manager later posted an official announcement
As the incident recently occurred, there are many things we still need to investigate. Our first priority is in helping the audience vacate the premise. Based on our knowledge, at around 8:10pm tonight there were problems with the seats towards the right side of the stage. Some of the seats were lifted a foot and a half from the ground and thus the seats began to collapse. Many people in the audience were frightened, which caused chaos. Due to the situation, the organizers decided to stop the concert and began directing people out.
At the time of the incident, Faye was still beneath the stage preparing for her entrance. When she heard of the commotion, she was startled and became very concerned for the safety of those sitting in the audience. She kept asking if anyone was hurt.
Our first priority is in assisting with the evacuation and investigating other safety concerns. We only heard from our staff members that a few fans in the audience sustained minor injuries. We're grateful there hasn't been any serious injuries reported. Once we have ensured that everyone has safely vacated the premises, we will immediately hold a meeting to investigate the situation. We will see to it that the organizers assess all the safety concerns in order to prevent another accident like this from happening again.
As to whether or not the concert tomorrow will continue, we are still in discussion. If we cannot keep the scheduled performance, the organizers will refund the tickets. If that is the case, there will be further announcements.
